If you just have a single wireless access point and you want to set up a
simple Linux VPN server I would recommend PopTop (PPTP) which is available
here:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/poptop/
There is installation instructions in the Docs section.
IPSEC is definitely more secure, but PPTP is still reasonably secure and
probably more appropriate for your setup if I understand it correctly.
Setting up IPSEC under Linux is fairly difficult and most versions of
Windows don't have a built-in IPSEC client. PopTop will work with nearly
all versions of Windows including 95 (with the Dial-Up networking upgrade),
98, ME, NT, 2000, XP, and CE, since they include a built-in PPTP-compatible
client.
