Yes AdSubtract Pro does slow broadband web page displays. I posed
this very same matter to AdSubtract Pro tech support and they confirmed
it to me.
In the "old days" of dialup the time it took for AdSubtract Pro (or
any other proxy-based ad blocker) to remove ads etc was - less - than
the time it would have normally taken to display them. But with any
kind of broadband it actually takes - longer - to remove the ads then it
does to just go ahead and display them.
Because of this I selectively use AdSubtract here with cable modem.
Typically I use Popup Ad Filter to suppress all the popups. It is an IE
plugin and not a proxy so there is absolutely no slowdown. However it
does nothing to remove ads.
