Your friend is correct. But, if you have a properly installed and
kept-up-to-date virus scanner running in the computer, nothing will be
opening up a hole to the outside because the virus scanner will catch
the trojans, worms, etc. before they can open a port in the NAT.
Run AdAware from www.lavasoft.de on a regular basis to make sure you
don't have spyware opening up their own trojan horses, too! AdAware
is free.
