another area of consumer device requiring security has been
automobiles ... from technical expertise standpoint has lots of
similarities to computers (how many people rebuild ignitions and locks
in their automobiles to be more secure). lots of joy-ridding is not
treated as serious felony.

over possibly last 20 year period there was some improvement ... in
part because of competition between manufactors ... especially after
some of the foreign imports beame a serious consideration (the
corollary would probably mean basic operating system competition
... since serious security requires support by the basic operating
system). also insurance rates/policies had some role in rating
competing models and adjusting the rates. Insurance possibly plays a
similar role in security devices for homes.

there are possibly only a couple after-market security devices for
automobiles ... with significant market penetration ... and they took
possibly 100 years to show up.
