I've used NPF since version 2.0.

I find that the latest version occasionally crippled my broadband connection
after about 5-8 days of continuous use. The ad blocking feature is nice.
Anymore, I only use NAV, XP's built in firewall. I lock down IE by
restricting cookies and scripts. No problems. I'm not worried about
'outgoing' stuff. I know what's running on my system at all times.

Norton (and other firewalls) try to make you think they are saving you from
malicious attacks. In reality they are alerting you to mere port scans.
(like when it says 'Subseven Trojan Blocked'. This is only a scan that
LOOKS for the Subseven trojan on your computer. If you don't have that
particular Trojan on your computer...the port scan from the 'remote address'
will not put it there. Even if it did, or tried to, you UP TO DATE
antivirus software should detect and alert you to it.

Remember, a firewall and antivirus software will not prevent you from doing
things you shouldn't.
