Outpost is a rules-based firewall, and doesn't require very much effort
to configure it. Once installed, it is in "rules wizard" mode. When an
application tries to connect to the network, a wizard pops up that walks
you through setting up rules for that program.

For most common programs, there are preset rules (rules allowing
connections on the ports that the program typically needs - for example,
web browsers are allowed to connect on port 80 (HTTP). If you desire,
you can always make your own rules or modify the presets.

So, yes, the program does require some configuration, but the process is
fairly simple.
