I'm using ZoneAlarmPro 3.0 at the moment and it works fine for me. You
could try ZoneAlarmFree 2.6 (which also worked fine for me) if you don't
need LAN ICS support www.zonelabs.com . OutpostFree also worked well on my
system (www.agnitum.com )
As stated in another post, it is also good to learn about network protocols
and services. You can significantly reduce your vulnerability on the
internet by configuring your network correctly. I would use a firewall in
addition, though. If you're interested checkout www.grc.com
