First use IPCop, not SW.
1. No, it's a firewall
2. Mo, it's a firewall
3. You can probably compile and run anything you want on it, but then you
defeat the purpose of a firewall. Use it the way it was intended and you
get great protection, if youallow other services to run on your firewall
box and they are compromised (you have to allow accesses to those services)
then your whole system can be at risk.
The above also applies to IPCop, it's support is better and security fixes
are faster, they had the fix for the zlib problem early on the same day I
read about it. And they are friendly too :-).
