RedHat, oh damn! I can see you doing that 100+ times to make it semi-secure.
Regardless, some patches even if not in kernel still require a reboot,
or -HUP to the daemon(s).
Besides, with Linux there's a new kernel every other week. I don't know how
people can enjoy having to update their kernel's weekly, and reboot
produciton servers every other week cause of a new kernel/patch. yuck!
And not to mention 'experimental' drivers in what they call a 'production'
level kernel, ie. 2.2.x or 2.4.x like, wtf??? I can understand in 2.3.x or
2.5.x the development level but no... Some crazy stuff with linux's
development model.
I still use slackware/debian linux for play mind you though, and redhat sure
I use it too, but it's protecting my desk right now from my hot coffee cup.
Many times Linux didn't and still doesn't support my newer hardware (hard to
believe) so had to go back up to *BSD.
Linux or *BSD, same thing in that respect that it's nothing like windows
requiring as many reboots.
Debian is doing something good, Debian/NetBSD. Debian, without the Linux
kernel.
