I just spent a few minutes to set up an FTP server behind my DI-704P
on 90.0.0.1 and it works properly when using Virtual Server. I did not
try to set up a DMZ but I suspect that works too. Since I am free to
use any address I'll leave it at 90.0.0.1 and see if anything else
doesn't work. You need to find the problem elsewhere.

I did need to shut down OutPost Pro because it blocked the connections
even when I told it not to but after that FTP came up just fine.

Thinking that your 172 address was weird somehow I used that one. It
works just as well though I needed to reboot since Windows 2000 became
confused at changing the IP a second time.
