firewall ports?

If a VPN client makes a connection to a VPN server through a firewall, using
ports 500 (UDP) and 50 (IP) as an L2TP/IPSec connection, what port will the
VPN server talk back to the client on? Will it also use the same ports or
will it use high ports?
