I have a same (or similar problem) with WinXP/ZAP.
It seems that I can disconnect and reconnect to my ISP (56K Modem
connection) with no problem, as long as I do it myself. When the ISP
hit's a timeout and disconnects me automatically, any reconnection I
make doesn't work. The connection seems to be established correctly
but there is no traffic and it behaves as if the connection is not
there (remote server not found etc). It is only resolved by a full
machine re-boot (i.e. log off and back on won't work)

I noticed that the automatic disconnection always creates an event log
message that relates to the True Vector Service and says:

"The description for Event ID ( 1 ) in Source ( True Vector Service )
cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary
registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a
remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to
retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The
following information is part of the event: .
0000: 4f 70 65 6e 50 72 6f 63 OpenProc
0008: 65 73 73 45 72 72 6f 72 essError
0010: 20 35 3a 20 6f 6e 20 70 5: on p

0028: 6e 61 6d 65 64 20 00 named . "

Obviously the PID number in the (hex) message will vary.
Zonelabs recognise this "Open Process" error on their web site in the
Known Issues section, relating to Win2K and say that it's not a
problem - just an annoyance.
I suspect in WinXP it has now become a problem as it is *always*
present just before my problems occur.
Sorry not able to help with your problem, but have you checked the
WinXP event log (application), and do you have a similar message just
before your problems start?
