The above person who got HACKED was Charles Moody. A person Thomas Herrod
tutored about Internet Security & Privacy, but went to the Dark-Side, so
to speak. (sounds like a Star Wars movie does it not?)

Thomas Herrod spent many hours, days, weeks, and years trying to teach
Charles Moody on how to protect himself, as well as tell him to pass
on these subjects to Charles wife while he was learning.

Unfortunately, Charles Moody spent his waking hours delving into the
world of News Groups, stirring trouble, and also using WAREZ programs
he got illegally over the Internet via News Groups or web sites that
host them. He also downloaded hacker utilities, which, most were also
already embedded with backdoors to begin with.

Thomas Herrod warned him many times (to numerous to even count) to stop
this behavior, to no avail.

He also warned Charles Moody that Chat Programs are dangerous, and was
the first person to speak out in public about the Chat Programs like
ICQ, Netmeeting, IRC, etc., extensively to him, as well as hundreds
more over News Groups. They all did not listen, and to this day, these
programs are still being hacked, but promoted vigorously, even over
the TV today.

After many weeks of trying to ask Charles to not do these hazardous
deeds, Charles was the unhappy recipient of a hack, which is in it's
original form above.

Charles also hung out in comp.security.firewalls News Group and befriended
the same nasty evil doers that put down Thomas Herrod in that News Group,
in order to perform the simplest of 1st Line Attacks regarding hacking
techniques:

Social Engineering Hacking Tricks

The culprits in comp.security.firewalls made Charles Moody feel all warm
inside, took him under their wings, and started the attack.

They asked questions about Thomas Herrod, where he lived, what does he do
for a living, what ISP he uses, etc.,

This went on for weeks, even after Thomas Herrod told Charles he was being
hit by a Social Engineering trick from the nasty people that lurk in
comp.security.firewalls. Charles still ignored the warning.

Charles kept on using ICQ, for which program was hacked to get to Charles,
even after numerous warnings to Charles Moody.

Thomas Herrod laid down a simple Anti-Social Engineering coversation with
Charles Moody one day, while Thomas Herrod was chatting with Charles Moody
on the telephone, when Charles Moody was happily in coversation with the
same hacker while he was using ICQ and chatting to Thomas on the telephone.

Simple sentences to Charles, typed back to a hacker while Charles was in
coversation on ICQ with the hacker. Charles relayed those sentences to the
hacker, and the hacker then published the misinformation on
comp.security.firewalls the same night.

Thomas Herrod read the threads on comp.security.firewalls, called his
witnesses to view them, and all were in agreement that Charles Moody
was the dupe, and that the evil doers on comp.security.firewalls were
busted.

End of story.....not by a long shot.

After Charles Moody was caught "LIVE-In-ACTION" doing these deeds, and
also denying them with venemous intent, Thomas Herrod gave himself one
week to come up with a decision on what to do.

One week later, Thomas Herrod broke off the friendship do to Charles Moody's
incessant lies. Something Thomas Herrod did not want to do, but really had
no choice after Charles Moody's colors shined through brilliantly.

End of story........not yet.

After the evil doers on comp.security.firewalls found out that Thomas
Herrod unraveled their evil plot, they swore vengance. After all, they
were a little ticked off when they found out they got caught by such
and easy fly catcher method.

The evil doers flooded poor Thomas Herrod's ISP with bogus complaints,
spoofed some messages claiming they were from Thomas, and the list just
goes on like a Soap Opera. (remember, this was back a few years ago, before
firewalls were really popular, and ISP's were clueless).

Thomas Herrod has helped out Network Ice Corporation, Symantec, and a few
other companies by e-mail in the past, about problems with their products.
Sometimes, these very same companies, as well as Steve Gibson, do not like
it when a person finds flaws in their products, or their inherant ramblings
on subjects that they publish in error, or when they publish Thomas Herrod's
findings, and take credit for them.....publicly. (who wouldn't?)

Needless to say, Thomas Herrod is a just and simple person. He tries to
help those that are in need, but will not waste his time on those that
are not willing to learn, or have serious social issues.

Thomas Herrod is, and has been, networking for quite sometime, but some
people in comp.security.firewalls think that only Thomas uses it. Well,
that is pure nonsence. Thomas lets his friends use his network when they
visit if time permits.

As far as controversial subjects on Internet Security and Privacy are
concerned, Thomas loves to discuss them in a rational manner. It only
boils down to nasty posts mainly from those people on comp.security.firewalls
that cuddle with the Admin of that News Group, which, by the way, has been
one of the rudest hosts that Thomas has ever encountered unless you are in
their "gang" so to speak. (they also go to other forums harrassing people
with any mention of Thomas. I'm sure you will find the trail if you look).

Thomas Herrod has never been a follower, so that did not work out, and it
peeved those "NORMS" on comp.security.firewalls when Thomas said that
Checkpoint Firewall was going out of busniess/selling out, before everyone
found out. (just one example).

Speaking about Norms, Charles Moody used the name NormG, on
comp.security.firewalls also.

Life goes on.....

Don't rely on everything you read in comp.security.firewalls, including
Thomas Herrod's posts. Thomas never has said that he is/was the God of
Internet Security and Privacy. It's YOUR job to seek that knowledge, and
relying on a News Group is "NOT" the bright thing to do. After all, look
at the schmucks Thomas Herrod has had to put up with in comp.security.firewalls
and other forums.

Remember, News Groups are people posting what THEY want, and not
necessarily everything they post is the truth, or who they say they
are. Adding to this, if you buddy/pal up with the Admin of the
News Group, he/she can change, alter and forge ANY MESSAGE they want, at
will, before publishing. This holds true especially if a company,
who is posting the Admins News Groups is making money off of the
web site hits and has a special relationship with the Admin, which
of course they would when it comes to MONEY.

Oh, before I forget: If the Admin does not publish this posting, at least
Thomas Herrod can post it in "PLAIN SIGHT" on his web site for the Public
to view, in whole truth, when time permits.

I wonder if comp.security.firewalls will let this post through.
