    Hi:

I have a PC that was running XP Pro. I used Drive Image 2002 to retore the
XP system root partition after a major crash. While I was at it, I made
the system dual boot with XP and Redhat 9.0 using GRUB.

In restoring the XP image, I ended up changing the partition number for
XP. After several efforts including running FDISK /MBR and the FIXBOOT off
a recovery console, I can get XP to start, sort of. It goes through the
first screens with the logo and the moving dots. The screen flashes and
the blue screen with the small logo appears. I am thinking, here comes the
log-on screen but it just sits there.

Booting the CD to a recovery console finds the installation as C:\. I
    think it was H:\ previously.

I also tried using the MBRTool progam to "refresh" the boot signature.
    That did not change anything.

It does do a floppy disk seek a time or two just before stopping. Plus the
mouse cursor is on screen and moves. But it's just stopped.

I have tried a safe mode boot, but it does the same thing.

It does not appear to create a boot log file when I select the boot-log
    option.

There were two other FAT-32 partitions originally. I eliminated one of
them. I would guess XP is confused as to drive letters, but have no idea
how to tell it reset and rebuild the drive letters. BTW: I have two CD
drives plus a ZIP disk as well if that matters.

I am out of ideas short of a re-install which is a last resort.

    Thanks in advance.

    Jess
