We have a network consisting of about 150 machines, 110 PC and the rest is
Macintosh. They are connected through a number of 3Com and Nortel switches.
All Spanning Tree protocols are disabled on all switches as there are no
physical loops in the network.

! Backbone 1GB ! 3Com 4900. Uplink & Servers

! ! ! ! ! ! 3Com 4300 with Gigabit uplink modules

! ! ! 100Mb/s

The phenomenon that occurs is that the switches (more or less) act as hubs,
sending out all traffic on all ports thus making a heavy load on the
network. Enabling the Spanning Tree protocol with faststart option makes it
even worse. Switches are upgraded with latest firmware.
I'm stumped what to do about it. Anyone got a hint?
Regards
