Sorry for a wide distribution. Just to inform, released is a new updated
version of REGLN utility. This uility allows creation and deletion of the
Windows Registry Links - feature unavaiable so far for Windows Users.
Windows Registry Links are similar to file "shortcuts" or Unix Filesystem
"soft links", just in the Registry. The best example of the registry link
is the key called "CurrentControllSet" (it's a link to one of the Controll
sets).
Using Registry Links you can perform many administrative tasks
impossible before. For example you can link any reigstry key to the
Hardware Profiles, thus allow ANY Windows setting to be Hardware Profile
Dependent. Another example is having many Windows Users logged on to
one single (common) profile for security purposes. Moreover you can
link user profiles to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE or any setting from HKLM to
a user profile.
This utility is released for free, along with full NTAPI (the Native,
"undocumented" API) source code under GPL (GNU) license. And yes, this
utility uses the "misterious" REG_LINK (6) value type...
Avaiable from:
http://www.ntinternals.net/regln/
or
The latest release fixes a problem with mapping from HKUS to \Registry\User
and adds synonym "HKU" for compatibility with scripts and other utilities.
Please report any problems, questions or remarks to regln@ntinternals.net...
Have fun!
Anthony
