We are experiencing a problem with Eudora 5.1 when multiple users share the
same email account.
The way we run EUDORA 5.1 is to store the data on the local file server in a
folder called "Eudora", install the Eudora exe files on the users' PC's, run
the exe file but start it in the server fileshare. In that way, all
authorised users of that fileshare can run Eudora and access the same email.
The problem with this setup is that if the users do not log out first in the
office, they will be faced with a "Eudora in use" error message, and gets
locked out. Sometimes too, even if the user has logged out, they still get
this error message.
This was puzzling initially, but after some investigation, we found that
there is still a file in the fileshare called "owner.lok" which should have
been deleted when the user logs out of Eudora - this file prevents another
user from logging in.
I can't explain why this file doesn't get deleted automatically. The
solution was thus to delete this file, if it exists, before launching
Eudora.
Does anyone out there have a solution to fix this problem apart from the
manual (& possibly dangerous) way I have done it??
I doesn't appear to matter whether the PC's are Win 95/Win2000 machines.
The server is NT4 server.
Any advice much appreciated.
