hello,

I'm using a tool witch scans files and their SD on network shares. For this
I use the function GetNamedSecurityInfo(). On my local pc everything seems
to work. In a testenvironment with only one PDC it also works (I have to
log in to the PDC but the pc from witch I run the tool is not a member of
that domain.
So the testing was successfull.
Then I tried to run it on the domain of my company and it doesn't work. The
function returns the following error : The RPC server is unavailable. But I
checked it and on both the pc where the tool is running and on the
fileserver that contains the share the RPC services are running. With one
file however GetNamedSecurityInfo did not fail. This was a file from witch
the SD was edited with a WIN 2000 system. I also tried scanning a local
directory; that worked.
Does anybody have any suggestions on what I should check ? Can there be a
correlation between the one file that succeeded and the fact that its SD was
edited with WIN 2K ?
Please help....

Thank You

... "RPC server unavailable" can often be traced to a problem in name ... A network sniff would tell you what's going on. ... >> I'm using a tool witch scans files and their SD on network shares. ... >> file however GetNamedSecurityInfo did not fail. ...
