Hello All:
I run Windows 98 on my machine,
and my ISP runs Windows NT 4.0.
I want to upload 10 web pages and
20 images (gifs), but I want to make
each file password protected (in-
cluding the gif images that will
"sit next" to the web pages on my
directory, after their upload). Addi-
tionally, I'd like to make it so
no one can download these files
from the internet.
I'm familiar (a bit) with the CGI
scripts that can be executed through
a "form" submission (a password form).
But, I am not happy with the thought that
my web pages would be sitting all alone,
on my ISP's directory, waiting for a
browser to load in their URL address loca-
ions. I want something a bit more secure,
since the images involved are nice
pieces of (copyright-protected) work,
and will have an exclusive audience.
Can my ISP web server control
who accesses my web pages dir-
ectly? Is it possible that the server
can make it so every browser attempting
to access the URL addresses (of my files)
would immediately be prompted for user
name and/or password? (I have heard of
this, but I'm a newbie with with web
servers!)
Any help would be appreciated.
Best Regards,
Brian B
