Tor, Firefox, Flash, Director

Hello,

I'm not overly or underly concerned with this issue, but would like to ask
the question. I will also ask on specific mailing lists. The issue is
about 6 months old now.

Excerpt:

[Sorry, it's in pdf and I cannot copy text directly.] Please look at the
last section, called "Conclusions for people using Tor"

I am using Firefox [can use others], with Java and Javascript blocked by
default. There is no Active-x on my systems. Flash is installed, but how
is the easy way to block it for unintended use? [No.1. question.]

I watch lots of streaming video every day [real, flash and director], but
all normal media stuff (maybe an occasional abnormal www.youtube.com
video), and never when I think I need Tor. But if I want to use Tor and
want privacy, how do I block these holes [other than using Lynx or wget]?

I use privoxy, but what is Socks4a, please? And how do I know if Tor is
resolving DNS as recommended. I know I can use tor-resolve and nscd, but
does that keep my requests out of searchable databases?

I can use Lynx or wget, and do at times. To what extent is this advisable
(for the extra effort), and when and why, please. Any suggestions and
insights appreciated.

I am not into terrorism, violence or kiddie porn, and mean nobody any
harm. I just appreciate privacy, especially in today's environment. I do
_not_ want spooks looking over my shoulders. Thanks for suggestions.

Tor is not political, and is freely available to all. It is a project
supported by EFF (tor.eff.org). They can use help in programming and
financial help, and additional tor servers if you are able to provide them.

Tor's security is improved as its user base grows and as more people
volunteer to run servers. Please consider volunteering your time or
volunteering your bandwidth. And remember that this is development
code—it's not a good idea to rely on the current Tor network if you
really need strong anonymity.
