I cannot answer for SuSE system, I'm on slackware ;)
Using BSD style or SysV? SuSE doesn't use rc.local - instead, you
can use /etc/init.d/boot.local , or create your own /etc/init.d/local
script and make symlinks to it in /etc/rc.d/rc.$RUNLEVEL/ - the Sxx
number should be higher than the script that brings up the network, but
not so high as to have an appriciable wait. Look at /etc/inittab to see
what run level you are using (the 'id:' parameter), and look to see the
how the links are set up in that runlevel directory (probably /etc/rc.d/rc.3
or /etc/rc.d/rc.5).
