With a students' computer class, I would expect there would be a teacher
or room-monitor who would be on the lookout for people doing indelicate
things to the class's machines.

I would also expect that there would be a standard boot floppy/CDR (or
PXE-boot procedure) for re-imaging any such machines from a central (and
protected) build host, when/if needed. That's what we did for the Linux
lab at San Francisco State University, for example.
