Guten Tag Peter,
Knoppix does not mount HDs by default. It takes an explicit command to
mount them, and another to mount them read/write (that in the GUI, in
the CLI one command will, of course, do both of these things). But my
concern is that Knoppix coming without firewall, somebody might be able
to use one of the open ports to elevate priviledges by, say carshing
some app with a buffer overflow, and manually mount r/w my drives.
While I realize that distros cannot really provide security without
somebody behind, a firewall blocking all ports except 80 or, better, a
Knoppix remastering without the option of mounting disks would go a
long why, would it not?
Alternatively, how would somebody (unlike me) WITH all the requiered
skills use a regular Knoppix and its apps to secure his/her HD? Could
something simple like [rm /bin/mount] (or whatever the exact path for
[mount] is in Knoppix) before establishing a connection do the trick
(being a live-CD I would not have any problem loosing the mount command
until my next reboot)?
Cheers,
TN
