I've avoided anything related to Microsoft's "passport" service, and I
assocoate the MS .NET fud with it, so I've never considered running
any windows or unix applications that said they needed .NET. I know
of the mono project and haven't seen any objections to it, recently.

I just looked at Activestate Python/windows and see it uses .NET.
Are there any downsides to runing .NET/mono applications ?
