You could spend that 60 bucks(or less)on a hardware router like the linksys
BEFRS41 that has a built-in firewall and provides nat routing.Plug-n-Play.

I've used the mandrake firewall before.It uses Shorewall
http://www.shorewall.net/
The docs are good,it's easy to configure using a text editor.There's no gui.
If you go that route,check out the docs above.You might want to
change the default config,but it's pretty secure out of the box.
sshd supports /etc/hosts.allow and /etc/host.deny
You can filter access by ip easily.
