I can't find the pid of a zombie process

I'm running Slackware 8.0 with a 2.4.19 kernel on an i586.
The problem I have is with the Gentoo file manager, which I really like,
but it's a little buggy, and sometimes I have to force a shutdown of it
with /bin/kill or skill. When I do this, it *often* leaves behind ghost
windows. They are usually some sort of dialog box. I can see them on
screen, can move them, minimize them or whatever, but there is nothing in
them (except whatever was on top of them: whenever I bring the "ghost" to
the foreground, it carries an image of whatever had been on top of it, then
drags that image around wherever I drag the ghost window to.)
I can't kill them. I can't find the pid with ps -A or under /proc. I
have to reboot to get rid of them, and it's a little frustrating.
xkill won't kill it, and top won't list it.
The only program that would give me any info about the little imp is:
bash-2.05# xwininfo
xwininfo: Please select the window about which you
would like information by clicking the
mouse in that window.
xwininfo: Window id: 0x401f35 (has no name)
Absolute upper-left X: 252
Absolute upper-left Y: 44
Relative upper-left X: 252
Relative upper-left Y: 44
Width: 386
Height: 101
Depth: 24
Visual Class: TrueColor
Border width: 1
Class: InputOutput
Colormap: 0x20 (installed)
Bit Gravity State: ForgetGravity
Window Gravity State: NorthWestGravity
Backing Store State: NotUseful
Save Under State: no
Map State: IsViewable
But that doesn't seem like useful information to me, except maybe the
Window-id field (0x401f35), which I don't know how to interpret.
It's making a zombie of me. ^_^
Any ideas how I can get rid of this spook?
