in comp.os.linux.security i read:

>Some days ago I suddenly started getting the error message:
>"Address family not supported by protocol initializing protocol stacks?!?"
>when trying to lookup an IP address on whois.ripe.net using
>the whois command. It turned out to be caused by my DNS server

>and doesn't even try the IPv4 address.

and your security question is ... what?

(disable ipv6 processing in your resolver, disable ipv6 on your system,
obtain an ipv6 connection, or manually resolve whois.ripe.net and use the
-h option to whois.)
