    ??? Why are you getting /dev/null when you telnet in? Is that account
    *active* on that machine, or is its shell listed as /dev/null?

    Or did some twitling set permissions on /dev/null to be something other than
    777? You need to get into that machine, possibly at the console, and see
    what is going on.
