I have a small home network consisting of 4 computers behind a LINUX gateway
(& firewall) connecting the LAN via an ISDN dialup line to the internet. PCs
within the LAN have private addresses assigned. NAT & firewall are both
active and working fine (SuSE distribution, version 7.2, kernel 2.4.4).

Now my son decided to wish to communicate with his fellows via MS
messenger's Audio/video (which didn't work of course). Signing up and
instant messaging works fine.
I also opened the UDP ports (dynamic port access, what a shame!) that are
necessary and the firewall log does not report any blocked UDP connection
attempts. Reading the MS-documentation turned out that the smart MS-guys
transmit (for whatever reason) the IP-addresses of the corresponding clients
as data within the packets. These are private addresses (very usual on
private networks) and thus cannot be routed through the internet.
They (MS) say, that there is some kind of interface (UPnP) the Messenger
application can use to determine the translated address in order to put that
one into the Session Initiate packet. But I can't find any documentation on
such an interface.
Can anybody help. What alternate ways are possible to get this working? Is
there a way may be with SuSE distribution 8.0?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot,

Carsten
