You could theoretically override the bios with specially designed card
in an old ISA slot, but I don't think it is possible with the PCI or
PCMCIA buses (it depends on the bridge chip set used - I don't think any

Because of silly extremities in suppositions which were rebutted by just as equally silly extremity. Your point was silly which became evident when I became just as extreme. You don't protect against extremes as the cost is far too high. You protect against expected hazards. You see a expansive net of nuke-carrying satellites yet poised in space, all pointing outward, to ward off the next big rock that will hit our planet? But you do see door locks on computer rooms, houses, stores, cars, and, yes, even on computer cases.
