You might be better asking a group which specialises in hacking
rather than one with a focus in keeping things secure.
Don't you mean "cracking"?
Security is related to breaking it, so he actually is in the right
group. However, the problem is totally uninteresting. There is a file,
which the author doesn't want anybody to copy, print or alter, and he
achieves this using an own (probably insecure) format, for which he
writes a special program.
