Re: software copy protection reviews?

Jim
Thanks for your experience and thoughts.
Yes I am thinking sell low to lever volume sales.
support? ..training? .possibly?

The algorithms are not common therefore
I'd like to make it difficult for average hackers.
encryption,
debug detection,
lock to machine ids

I was looking at
Alladin, 15K, too expensive
Softpro, 500, ???
cryptkey, ???, ???

Nobody Reviews this stuff.; do they????

Have a good one.

Pardon me. If this is not germaine to this group Thanks

It seems a reasonable question and that someone creating
software might wish to earn money from their work is not
a problem; However I would have thought VB6 is a clumsy
platform to write anything serious in.

For confirmation of your assessment of Sebastian Gottschalk
see previous threads in this group.

How you protect your software is influenced by the sort
of market you have for it, the options range from dongles
cryptographic registration keys, to online validation
like Microsoft. They all have strengths and weaknesses
and are all a varying pain in the arse for users.

All present challengers for crackers, who seem to be
able to beat most systems easily if they have an interest
or challenge.

I released a program with its own protection scheme, got
7000 downloads and no registrations, perhaps it would sell
better if I released a keygen and then the second version
with a new protection system.

A lot depends whether you are selling a $20 program or a
$2000 application. For a low volume complex product bundling
in documentation training and support is a good way of locking
in clients and making money longterm.

Otherwise pile high, sell cheap and expect piracy.
