Hi,
I would like to use my ISP's FTP server for backing up my personal files
from my desktop. I was wondering if there is a tool available (open
source/freeware if possible) that can automatically encrypt files while
transfering them to a remote FTP server, so that the files on the remote
server cannot be used by the ISP.
Well, I have found the software I need now.
It is called Cobian backup, it's free, does Blowfish file encryption, file
compression and backup to FTP (amongst many other things):

Tom, thanks for the followup. That looks like a very well thought out
tool. Certainly should keep the ISP from snooping with the inclusion
of strong encryption for the backup files.
It's got me curious how export regulations on strong encryption have
changed (site is in cuba, and I do know export restriction on strong
encryption eased a few years ago), and whether a peer code review has
been done. This is an imporant aspect of any encryption tool for
trustworthiness.
The paranoid person's next question though would shift to the software
writer..."is this Cuban written backup app itself caching my ftp
username/password along with decryption keys anywhere to send to
anyone?"
Best Regards,
