    Here's a link to an instruction (PDF) on how to copy hard drives. The
    purpose is "legitmate", but shows how easy it is to use a minimal Linux load
    to do what you're asking.

    The big lessons are: 1) if you're worried about sensitive data, you have to
    take extra steps (clearing out caches, wiping programs, etc), and 2) that
    little cable from the wall to your computer isn't the only way to get to
    your stuff.
