Using a Router?

I'm presently using a DSL modem that my ISP sent me (VisionNet E200ER), Zone
Alarm Pro, and I'm wondering: If my DSL ISP (Earthlink) will work correctly
with a router being added (I've e-mailed them asking this), would this one
be good enough for my personal use?
I have one PC at home and intend to use it only for my connection there. I
understand (pitifully little, I'm afraid) that a router will boost security
for my system. Price and usefulness restrict my choice here.
