That's a major limitation with Google, having to register with a real
email address. I started out using Google, and noted the same
frustrations.

You can change your email address in your Opera profile itself (I
presume that you've already done that), and you can use a munged
address in the body of your Google posts, but you'll always have the
actual address (of the throwaway account) added to your Google
postings.

My advice?
1) Use a news reader (Free Agent or the like) for any postings you
can, and munge your profile there.
2) Setup a throwaway account, and use it with Google. Change the
throwaway account, periodically, when the spam level becomes
intolerable. Of course this means you'll have to register with Google
again.
3) I certainly wouldn't ever use my main email account when posting
to Google.
4) If you munge your address, try not to munge to what might be
somebody else's actual address. Pick something obvious (OK, mine
isn't totally obvious - I occasionally see real email sent to my
munged address). But do the best you can.

BTW, welcome to Usenet. Don't be discouraged by the name calling and
snide comments. Teenage boys and other immature types are awfully
frustrated by the real world, so they like to feel superior by putting
folks down in discussions (my armchair psychology). Just pick your
battles carefully, and checkout previous postings of other posters.
