Norton Vs AVG ?

I was wondering which anti-virus program was the best between Norton
Anti-Virus and AVG?

Does AVG check incoming email like Norton? What about Outgoing email does
AVG check them as well?

I have Norton Anti-virus at the moment but a lot of people have said that
AVG is a very good anti-virus program, and some say its better than Norton.

What is the general consensus?
