Your original question was: "is the name of the group I'm connected to
being broadcast anywhere?". The answer to that is: yes. Period. No
discussion. Whether your sysadmin chooses to log in detail enough to catch
it is another matter, but that doesn't change the fact that he can do so if
he wishes.

What you really seem to have wanted to ask is "does my local sysadmin or
any admin above him log traffic in such a way that they could see what
groups I read, or do you think they'd decide to add additional logging if
they suddenly noticed me pushing a few gigs of data per day to/from
usenet?". That's obviously a rethorical question to anybody who happens to
not be any of the admins in question.
