A great deal depends on what operating system you have, what browser you're
running, whether or not you're running a person Firewall program, etc.
If I were to assume a Windoze OS and Internet Exploder, I would say
something like: To tighten up the browser, go to Tools -> Internet
Options -> Security -> Internet zone -> Custom. Go through the various
options there, and be HIGHLY skeptical of anything set to "Enable". To
disable file sharing, find the "properties" page for your network card (how
to find it depends on the OS - in XP open "network connections" and
right-click the ethernet one, choose "properties"). Somewhere in that
dialog is a page listing which potocols or services are bound to your
Ethernet card. Remove or disable "File and Printer sharing for Microsoft
Networks".
If you run a personal Firewall on that machine, it won't help with the
scripting (unless you're REALLY good with the right product). It WILL,
however, help you lock out access to file sharing.

Tracking what he might do is WAY more difficult than controlling what he can
do. The simplest, and most effective, control is to simply lock him out
along with everybody else. To allow him more access than that is possible,
but the specifics again depend on your OS and the presence of firewall
software. A somewhat securable OS (Win2K, XP, *nix) affords you more
control than a wide-open Gates Special (95, 98, etc).
I'm not going to recommend any particular firewall product - go over to
comp.security.firewalls and lurk for a few days. You'll quickly pick up on
how almost religious the argum^H^H^H^H^Hdiscussions get. Definitely lurk,
though - don't go blazing in with a "what's the best firewall" post, since
there's one of those about every two hours already.
