We use Lenovo laptops so use their wireless client software which is quite good.
If you want netstumbler type functions, try the "Xirrus" sidebar gadget, it lists SSID, encryption, channel freq and several other fields, all of which are sortable. It's not brilliant but handy to look about in the area as a core windows application.(http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php)

Subject: Vista Wireless Client
Has anybody found a good wireless client for Vista? I'm only able to
use Microsoft's generic wireless client to connect to networks at the
time being. I'm running a Toshiba tablet with Vista Ultimate and would
like to have a wireless client that at least will give me more
information about wireless networks in the area. Netstumbler doesn't
seem to work and I would use Atheros's client but they have supplied
anything but the driver for vista. Also need a client that would work
with the new 802.1x WEP encryption. Secure W2 is the best bet right
now.
