RE: Windows Sharing File Permissions

The Security Tab is the NTFS permissions. The Sharing Permissions is
for just that.

The order is Sharing is resolved first with NTFS trumping the sharing
afterwards.

If the person is given write access via Sharing; then they have write
access to that folder UNLESS the NTFS permissions explicitly deny those
permissions. If the person is not given write permissions at the
sharing level, then no matter the NTFS permissions, they will not be
able to write to the folder.

It's an odd duck overall but has it's own sort of twisted logic.

Subject: Windows Sharing File Permissions

Hi All,

In Windows, there are two places to set shared folder permissions in the
Folder Property Box, on the Security Tab and on the Sharing Tab under
permissions. What is the difference between these two? Which one has
priority? Why are there two?

I know this seems like a very basic question but I cannot find good
documentation on this.

Thanks for your help,
