Incorrect - in Windows there is ONE place to set shared folder permissions,
and as you pointed out, that's on the Sharing Tab.

The security tab is where you set File or Folder NTFS Permissions... Also
called ACLs (Access Control Lists)

Share permissions are only parsed when a user is connecting over the
network...

NTFS ACLs are parsed every time access is requested on that resource,
whether over the wire or interactively...

Hi All,

In Windows, there are two places to set shared folder permissions in the
Folder Property Box, on the Security Tab and on the Sharing Tab under
permissions. What is the difference between these two? Which one has
priority? Why are there two?

I know this seems like a very basic question but I cannot find good
documentation on this.
