As Orlin said, one of the handy uses of 127.0.0.1 is to block advertising and malware sites. You can use a tool HostsXpert or HostsManager and downloading a predefined HOSTS file, such as http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/ . They identify "bad" sites, add them to their download file which you can periodically download. Any website name or IP in the file that is pointed to 127.0.0.1 is "blocked". Sure helps to speed up your web browsing experience.


Is there a singularity with these address ranges ?

Yep, those addresses are only for internal usage, they should not be routed in
a WAN! thus blocking them is a good idea. Blocking 127.x.x.x on every
computer/router/etc is a good practice as well, because it should be used
for only internal comunication.
