Truecrypt is virtual drive encryption, where it creates file based
virtual drive that mounts as a real disk. Everything you place in that
virtual drive is automatically encrypted.
TrueCrypt can also fully encrypt "secondary" i.e. non-boot hard drive.
But it can NOT fully the hard drive which boots the OS. This is where
TrueCrypt differs from Full Disk Encryption solutions. A true FDE
solution can fully encrypt the primary OS drive as well.

TrueCrypt is an OpenSource. Linux and Windows versions available.
MacOS X to be supported soon. It is the best deal (free)
