Re: The Value of GIAC/GSEC Certification

Interesting input, thanks to all!

How would the GIAC/GSEC fit in this? That seems like a much more general certification, almost akin to the CISSP.

Two entirely different certs (CISSP vs. various SANS) - depends what you want to do. Seems the CISSP is getting watered down and they are milling people through it to rake in the $$$.

Aside from that, you'll prob get more out of a sans track.

The practical is gone. But, there is a concept of Gold and Silver. Silver requires passage of 2 exams. Gold also requires a paper relevant to the cert, which can be a fair amount of work. Oh, and another $200. Finally, if you score an average of 90% or higher on the two exams (for those that require 2), you can participate on an advisory board by invitation. It's closed right now, but can get on the mailing list. You will also be invited to be a mentor and/or teacher for a sans near you.
