RE: question: Linksys 54G WAP - SSID name change issue

This seems a bit off-topic for this group, but I will try to help...

I had a similar problem with my WRTG54G, when I was letting my client
devices calculate the key. An ethereal capture from my laptop showed
that the problem was in authentication, so I manually entered the key
instead of allowing the devices to calculate it through the hash.
Everything cleared right up, and I now have 3 different brand 802.11B-G
devices talking on my network.
It would appear that the drivers for my PCMCIA cards weren't 100%
compatible with the Linksys router when calculating the key.
The easy way to do it is to copy and paste the hex code for key number 1
from the router to your troubled client, and it will probably settle
down.

It is interesting that simply changing the ssid would have such an
effect. Is the new ssid exceptionally long or contain non-standard
characters?

You also did not mention the make of the one or more wireless nics that
are having trouble with the new ssid. Maybe you problem is client side
and not with the access point

Hi all,

I don't know if any of you are familiar with this issue or not, but at
home, when I change the SSID, I have at least one wireless device which
has an inconsistent connection. It connects and later drops, but
eventually re-connects again and repeats itself. If I change it back to
the default, no problem. I have updated the firmware, and searched
through Linksys website for information about this problem, but it
persists. Linksys tech support changing my antenna position, but that
didn't help.

Any suggestions or solutions?

Thanks,

Joe
