    Mike,

    I suggest using SMS 2.0 the network and asset management functions of it
    works great. It is very easy to configure, even for a novice
    administrator. I have used this software on many occasions to do
    hardware inventory and desktop/client admin stuff. I have never used
    the newer version of SMS but I definitely know that SMS 2.0 works.
