The clients must have the "automated update" software installed. This is
included with Win2000 SP3, but can be manually installed on earlier
revisions. In addition, it require a registry update to point the updater
service at the SUS server instead of the windowsupdate site.

I believe that the client must have Service Pack 3 or later for Windows 2000
but that should be it.
