    Hi,

Within the next couple of days Yahoo is releasing a major new version of
    their Instant Messaging program.

It's a totally new version. So you might want to wait until that version is
released in the next couple of days before you make any conclusions.

Principally speaking that would make sense. Speaking on track record, I
think that there have been a lot more vulnerabilities for MSN Messenger than
AIM or Yahoo. I would recommend using AIM, because you can also encrypt
conversations over the wire (albeit weak encryption) for free if you go to
    www.aimencrypt.com.

I think that companies also develop private instant messaging software for
corporate networks -- like you can run your own messaging service that is
    closed within the workplace.

I could be wrong but as Windows has Messenger services integrated within it
then wouldn't that make it more damaging if used as a source of attack?
Even disabling certain messenger services within windows has caused probs on
Xp machines in our office as it's all so tied up with other services.

messengers have certain vulnerabilities. However, I want to know which one
would be have the lesser among the two.
