Microsoft is supposed to be adding this capability as a feature release
for SMS 2003 sometime next year. Alternatively you could use a
Microsoft RIS server to deploy standard configurations. Altiris
currently has this capability. You will need to determine if the remote
imaging or ease of applying security patches is more important.

I agree that the SMS and the SUS feature pack are a powerful
    combination.
However, we are looking to also have remote imaging capabilities for
    Laptops, Desktops and Tablet PCs.

Ideally we would want all these features on a single secure console.

What kind of desktops? All windows or a mix of Windows, Mac and Unix?
If all Windows clients, I think SMS with the SUS feature pack wins over
Altiris hands down. If you are running a mix, SMS is still a
possibility, but you will need to purchase some add on tools from
    Altiris to finis the task.

Between Microsoft SMS and Altiris Deployment Server, which product could
    be
considered to be the better one for managing several hundred desktops
    from a
    security stand point?
